School Tools Needed

E-mail Print

The North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry is currently holding our annual school supply drive.  This program helps families in northern Greenville County who need assistance providing the very basic materials for their children’s education.

In 2009 NGFCM gave backpacks and school supplies to more than 200 students in our community.   Due to the economy this year the need is even greater.  Thanks to a very generous community, many students will arrive in their classrooms with the necessary supplies to start the year properly.

Officer Alva Williams Receives Award

E-mail Print

(Received from TR Police Cheif Lance Crowe) We would ask you to join with us in congratulating Officer Alva Williams, who this past Saturday (7/10/10) was once again recognized for his hard work, professionalism, and dedication to our community. Alva was selected as a recipient of this year’s “Outstanding Law Officer’s Award” presented in Rock Hill by the Forty and Eight General’s Club. The club was formed in 1973 and its original purpose was to honor and dignify the profession of law enforcement.

The Forty & Eight was founded in 1920 by American veterans returning from France. Originally an arm of The American Legion, the Forty & Eight became an independent and separately incorporated veteran's organization in 1960. Membership is by invitation of honorably discharged veterans and honorably serving members of the United States Armed Forces. Officer Williams was nominated for this award by the director of the SC Criminal Justice Academy, making it an even more prestigious award.

Alva deserves our congratulations and we are honored to have him on our team here in Travelers Rest.
