Award sponsored by the Bank of Travelers Rest

Our “Citizen of the Year,” Mr. Clyde Carr, has been described as “A hard working man of astute character who maintains a consistent example in his daily walk and is always willing to help others with a pleasant character and self-less giving way”.

He has been active in the Travelers Rest and surrounding area for as long as most of us can remember as a business owner, through his involvement with his church, as a community leader and as a supporter of local charities.

He has served on the board of the YMCA for Northern Greenville County and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry.

On November 11, 2009 Officer Donny Widmer received the 2009 Crime Stoppers Russ Sorrow Award. This prestigious award is given each year in memory of murdered Greenville City Police Officer Russ Sorrow, along with six other Greenville law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty since his death. Officers are nominated by their chief or sheriff and are selected by a vote of the Crime Stoppers board.

This year's award was unique in that it was the first time it was given to two separate officers, one from a department consisting of fewer than 100 members and one from an agency of over 100 members.
